Hey ya’ll,
It has been a busy two weeks! This past weekend, I traveled to Richmond, Virginia to participate in a race – Run Richmond 16.19. Run Richmond 16.19 is an experience that takes participants through 400+ years of Black history, with the name referencing the year that marked the arrival of the first recorded Africans in Hampton, Virginia.

It was a powerful weekend of movement and reflection. All of this is part of my training for the New York City Marathon, which is now just six weeks away. I’m still feeling strong, but this is around the time in my training when the mileage starts to add up. I have a 14-mile-long run on deck this weekend – please send strength my way!

Also, exciting news: This newsletter officially has over 1,000 subscribers! As promised, I’ll be reaching out to the 1000th subscriber to get her a pair of Brooks running sneakers. Thank you everyone for being here.

Behind the Scenes
Earlier this week, I snorkeled in the Puget Sound for an upcoming episode of Out and Back, season 5. This shoot required the crew to be in small kayaks in order to capture the action and it’s a wonder they didn’t end up in the water too. Despite the semi-chaos, we were able to capture some beautiful and magical footage that I can’t wait to share with you. My guests for this episode are El and Moira, the founders of an organization called Meros Ocean. Meros Ocean exists to connect communities of color to the ocean through experiences that deepen our relationship with the sea and each other.
