Cascade Public Media (“CPM”) is the non-profit public media organization doing business as Cascade PBS .  CPM (collectively “CPM,” “us” "our," or “we”) is committed to protecting the privacy of our donors, members, viewers, and visitors (collectively “you,” “your” or “yours”) as set forth in this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy applies to the content, information, services, and products accessed via our website www.cascadepbs.org,  and any other website, channel, over-the-top (“OTT”) or mobile application, Cascade PBS Passport, in-person, by phone, or in any other medium and/or platform  now known or hereafter created (together and separately, “Service”) . This Privacy Policy does not alter in any way the our Terms of Use or any other agreement you may have with us which are hereby incorporated into the Terms.

PLEASE READ THIS PRIVACY POLICY CAREFULLY BEFORE USING ANY CPM SERVICE. BY ACCESSING THE SERVICE, CREATING AN ACCOUNT, AND/OR OTHERWISE PROVIDING INFORMATION TO CPM, YOU CONSENT TO THE POLICIES AND TERMS HEREIN.

INTRODUCTION

As further explained below, we  endeavor to recognize current standards of privacy including, but not limited to, the following requests you can make of us:

Request to Know

You may request that we provide to you information regarding Personal Information (defined below) that  we have collected, used, or shared about you, and why we did so.

Request  Deletion

You may request that we delete your Personal Information from our systems and tell our service providers to do the same.  

Opting Out

At the time you subscribe to or tell us your preferences for receipt of newsletters, e-mails or other communication to receive from us  or if at any point we share data, you may request that we stop sharing your Personal Information (“opt-out”).  Complying with your request, may impact our ability  technically to provide access to our Service.

The Impact of Making Requests under this Privacy Policy

We will not deny Service, charge you a different price, or provide a different level or quality of Service just because you exercised your options pursuant to this Privacy Policy. However, we may need certain information  in order to provide you with certain Service and prohibiting the use of certain information may make it technically impossible to provide some Service.

 Correcting Inaccurate Information

You may ask us to correct or delete inaccurate information that we may have about you.

Limiting the Use of Sensitive Information

You may direct us to only use particularly sensitive Personal Information (i.e., financial account information) for limited purposes, such as making a donation, registering for an event or providing you with the Services you may  have requested.

WHAT WE MEAN BY PERSONAL INFORMATION

For purposes of this Policy “personal information” includes your name, address, telephone number, email address,  credit card or other financial information associated with payment for a product, service or donation, and personal and subscription preferences you may designate when creating an account profile (“Personal Information” or “PI”). Personal Information does not include “aggregate” or tracking information, which we collect automatically about the use of our Service. Aggregate or tracking information does not identify you personally and means collective data that relates to a group or category of visitors or users, from which individual identities or characteristics have been removed. This Policy does not restrict or limit our collection,  use and/or sharing of aggregate information.

PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

This Privacy Policy applies to your personal information whether you give it to us by phone, mail, email, in person, over the internet via any device (now known or hereafter created) or other means. We collect certain information you voluntarily provide to us including, without limitation, the information you enter if you create an account or profile, send us an email, make a donation, subscribe to one or more CPM newsletters, enter into a subscription agreement or end user license agreement with us for a service we offer, request user support, view content or submit or post content to the Service, including but not limited to our social media platform.

We may automatically collect certain information when you visit or use the Service including, without limitation, your Internet Protocol ("IP") address, your operating system, the browser type, the address of a referring site and your activity on or in use of the Service. We may also collect information from mobile phone users in a similar manner to optimize the mobile experience. Beyond mobile phone numbers, we may collect mobile screen resolution, device make and manufacturer, and may also collect the device’s unique identifier (in the iPhone’s case, a UDID), and your location. We treat this information as Personal Information if we combine it with or link it to any of the identifying information mentioned above. Otherwise, it is used in the aggregate only.

We may also receive collected personal information from third parties. If we do so, this Privacy Policy will govern our use of the combined information.

The Service may allow you to send messages to  other Service users in the future. These messages may be stored for retrieval at later times in order to facilitate communication.

The Service may allow you to make financial transactions in connection with the Service. Payment processing companies we engage are required to meet data security levels that are standards in the payment card industry.

PURPOSE FOR COLLECTION AND USE OF INFORMATION

YOU MAY REQUEST A WRITTEN RESPONSE FROM US REGARDING HOW YOUR INDIVIDUAL PERSONAL INFORMATION HAS BEEN SHARED WITH THIRD PARTIES

Any request for a written response regarding how your Personal Information may have been shared with third-parties should be sent to us via email to our Donor/Audience Relations Manager at CustomerService@cascadepbs.org

We may limit such response to the prior twelve (12) months before receipt of the request.

YOU MAY REQUEST THAT WE RESTRICT THE USE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

You may  let us know that you do not wish to allow us to use your personal information as we describe in this Policy by documenting  via:  1) email to the Donor/Audience Relations Manager at: CustomerService@cascadepbs.org; 2)  letter to us at Cascade Public Media Customer Service, 316 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122; and/or 4)  as part of the donation process if you call to donate (with your written confirmation via email to the above email address).

In some circumstances, opting out may prevent you from participating in activities for which personal information is needed, such as contests and/or certain services. If you want to remain completely anonymous you may still be able to take advantage of select content which is available (where it is specified to be accessible without registration) via our Service .

 INFORMATION RETENTION AND DISPOSAL

We may retain personal information for as long as we have a business need for it or as applicable laws, regulations, or government orders require us to retain it. Additionally, our Service may enable you (or other users) to save information including information that you have made public or allowed certain users to access or see.

USE OF FINANCIAL INFORMATION

You may use a credit card, EFT/ACH information, or check when making a donation to CPM, when making a purchase or when downloading an application. If you make a donation, purchase products, pay for services or download an application via the Service or Service vendor, the transaction may be handled by our service vendor or the application platform responsible for processing your payment. This vendor may have its own privacy policy and if so, those terms will apply to you. Please be sure to review them at the links provided  when submitting information for payment processing.   If you do not agree with a vendor’s privacy and terms of use,  do not proceed. We may require your payment or credit card information in order for our payment vendor or us to process purchases. This includes your name, payment or credit card number, expiration date, billing address, and authentication codes or related information as needed to authorize the charge and complete the transaction. Credit card data is transferred via technology currently known as a “Secured Sockets Layer”(“SSL”) if you are using an SSL enabled browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome.

Information from financial transactions made through CPM Service is stored and served via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) servers .  Each page you view and any financial information you submit is encrypted during transmission between our Service and payment processors.                   

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information in an effort to prevent loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Our CPM hosting providers apply security updates routinely and monitor to address known security issues, consistent with industry standards.

Please be aware, however, that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse. To mitigate this risk, you should: (a) use secure usernames and passwords and carefully protect them from disclosure; and (b) implement updated internet security and virus protection on your computer. If you suspect that your computer’s security or your information has been compromised or your password accessed or used by an unauthorized third party, please immediately change your password.

If we become aware of a security systems breach, we may attempt to notify you electronically so that you can take appropriate protective steps. We may post a notice through the Service if a security breach occurs. We may also send an email to you at the email address you have provided to us to use in these circumstances.

CPM has no control over other sites that are linked to ours and we cannot tell you how those sites will treat your personal information. For all online financial transactions you make through organizations that link to our Service, be sure to review those organizations’ privacy policies. If you have any questions regarding how the organizations use your personal information, please contact them directly.

OUR TRACKING AND USE OF COOKIES

We may use standard Internet technology, such as web beacons and other similar technologies, to track your use of the Service. We also may include web beacons in promotional email messages or newsletters to determine whether messages have been opened and acted upon. The information we obtain in this manner enables us to customize the services we offer visitors and users of the Service to deliver targeted advertisements and to measure the overall effectiveness of our online advertising, content, programming, or other activities.

We use a standard feature of browser software called a cookie to help us respond to the needs and preferences of visitors. A cookie assigns each visitor a unique code that resides on the visitor’s computer. We may use cookies or a personalization service for identifying the interests, preferences and behaviors of web visitors to measure user traffic or obtain other analytics, to provide personalized services or to improve the Service functionality. The personalization service uses cookies to identify returning visitors. IP addresses may be stored and processed,  and may be shortened and stored in an anonymized form. User interests, preferences, and behavior in the personalization service may be combined and shared with other customer databases such as email.

You can prevent or delete our cookies by adapting your browser settings, but this can affect the functionality of the Service. We support and honor “Do Not Track” web browser settings. If you choose to decline cookies, please note that you may not be able to sign in or use some of the interactive features or services we may offer.

Other entities, however, may not honor Do Not Track signals. These parties may collect personal information about your online activities over time and across different web sites when you visit our Service, for example by using cookies on our website or apps. We have no access to, responsibility for, or control over other parties’ personal information collection practices, even those with which we may have an affiliation. SOCIAL MEDIA

The Service may include social media platforms or features, including but not limited to  Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube widgets, or interactive mini-programs that run on the Service. These features may collect your IP address, what content you are visiting via the App Service, and may set a cookie to enable the feature to function properly. Social media features and widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on the Service. Your interactions with these features are governed by the privacy policy of the company providing it.  We are not responsible for the policies of others including, but not limited to, privacy policies and terms of use.

AUTHORIZED THIRD PARTIES

We may use third-party service providers to place advertisements to market CPM and/or the Service on websites and/or apps across the internet. The third-party service providers may collect anonymous information about your visits or use of  our Service, and may use that information to target ads. They may collect web log data or place or recognize a unique cookie on your browser to enable you to receive customized ads. No personally identifiable information is collected in this process. They do not know your name, address, email address, phone number, or any personally identifiable information. We may also share your Personal Information with our authorized service providers, including advertisers and corporate partners, who perform certain additional services on our behalf. These services may include fulfilling orders, processing credit card payments, registering for events, providing customer service and marketing assistance, performing business analysis, supporting the functionality of our Service, supporting surveys, offering additional or related services, and other features offered through or in connection with our Service. These service providers may have access to personal information needed to perform their functions but are not permitted to share or use such information for any other purposes.

The NAI (Network Advertising Initiative) allows for the central opting out of all its members’ cookies from a single opt-out page. DONOR MARKETING AND PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES

Like many other nonprofits, CPM occasionally exchanges some of our donors’ names and postal addresses with selected educational, cultural, health, and social service organizations in order to reach more potential supporters of our organization in a cost-effective manner. CPM does not exchange email addresses or phone numbers. CPM may also disclose some personal information to third-party service providers such as mailing houses and fundraising organizations. We may contract with them for the purpose of assisting us with marketing and promotional activities.

 As a Donor, you agree to the purposes for which your personal information may be collected and you voluntarily consent to its collection, use or disclosure by us. You may withdraw your consent or request a correction of your personal information at any time by providing us with written  notice.  Send this notice to our Donor/Audience Relations Manager at CustomerService@cascadepbs.org

Please note that we may be required to keep your personal information and not delete it (or to keep this information for a certain time, in which case we will comply with a deletion request you may submit to us only after we have fulfilled such requirements). When we delete any information, it will be deleted from the active database, but may remain in our archives.

DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THIRD PARTIES IN CONNECTION WITH MAINTAINING OUR BUSINESS

We do not share the Personal Information provided or obtained through our Service with third parties, except as described below and as otherwise specified in this Privacy Policy. Our sharing of personal information may include sharing with the third party or third parties that perform(s) maintenance and operation of our Service on our behalf. These parties are bound  to keep such information confidential and are prohibited from the unauthorized disclosure and/or use of your personal information;

CHILDREN’S ONLINE PRIVACY PROTECTION

Our Service may (now or in the future) present educational content for children. Consistent with the Federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 ("COPPA"), we will not knowingly request or collect personal information from any child under age 13. If we learn that a user under 13 years of age has submitted personal information through or using one of our Service we will take reasonable measures to delete such information from our databases and not use such information for any purpose (except where necessary to protect the safety of the child or others as required by law). If a child submits stories, artwork, comments, or anything else to us which is to be posted at one of our Service we will first contact the child's parent or guardian for permission to use the submission. If permission is granted the child will be identified only by first name, age or grade level, city and state. Please remind your child never to provide personal information on any app or website without first getting your consent.

Our Service may link to third-party sites and we are not responsible for the content or safety and privacy practices of those sites. Therefore, we encourage adults and children to discuss these choices together before giving out any information at these outside sites. 

INTERNATIONAL NOTICE

Our Service is intended for United States and Canada use  only.  If you have somehow accessed our Service outside of the United States,  please be aware that the laws of your location do not apply. and the laws applicable to this Privacy Policy (as further set forth in our Terms of Use) may provide you with less protection than the laws of your jurisdiction in connection with the protection of your data, privacy, and otherwise.  Please be aware that by using our Service you are transferring your personal data to the United States and you consent to the transfer of your personal data to the United States and the use of your personal information, in accordance with this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use.

We reserve the right to change or modify this Privacy Policy and/or Service at any time to reflect changes in our business, practices, or to keep current with relevant laws or industry standards. We may attempt to notify registered users of material changes by sending an email to the email address you most recently provided us in your account, profile, or registration (unless we do not have such an email address), and/or by posting notice of the changes on via our  Service. We recommend that you check this website from time to time to inform yourself of any changes in this Privacy Policy and stay apprised of any other Policies (including, but not limited to our Terms of Use) that may be applicable; you are solely responsible for reviewing and becoming familiar with any modifications to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use which will be applicable to your use of our
Service upon our posting of the updated policies.
