Washington state is touted as a leader in environmental and ecological conservation, but the process of creating large-scale green energy projects in the state is complicated and has frustrated critics.

The latest Cascade PBS Northwest Reports podcast series, “It’s Not Easy Going Green,” introduces listeners to tribal leaders, environmental advocates, developers and other community members who all have different reasons they think the process is broken.

We sat down with co-host Maleeha Syed and investigative reporter Brandon Block to hear what they learned while producing the series.

“People think that even if they are concerned about climate change and think it’s a real problem, when it comes for you and your neighborhood, there is suddenly a new set of considerations about how far you are willing to sacrifice; in order to do something that maybe you think is valuable on the whole, but may not be willing to tolerate in your own backyard,” Block said.

You can listen to the full series by looking for the Northwest Reports Podcast here and wherever you get your podcasts.

Block’s extensive reporting criss-crossed the state to uncover more details. Read his work here.
