A new podcast series from Cascade PBS examines the leadership of Washington’s 24th governor, Bob Ferguson.
The latest Northwest Reports series, “Ferguson vs. Everyone,” looks at his first term so far, with insight from lawmakers, pollsters and journalists about how they think he’s doing.
As the state’s attorney general, Ferguson garnered national recognition for his many legal fights against the first Trump administration. As governor, Ferguson has surprised nearly everyone, and not in a good way.
A recent Cascade PBS/Elway poll found Ferguson had the worst approval rating for his first six months of any Washington governor in the past 30 years.
Lawmakers and voters alike expressed surprise, confusion and sometimes disappointment about the public servant they thought they knew.
“I think that people had expectations about who he would be as governor because of the way he behaved as Attorney General,” said Northwest Reports host and producer Sara Bernard.
Ferguson also received criticism for not being readily available to the press or holding weekly general press conferences in his first few months.
As anchor of The Newsfeed, I was able to interview him this past January, after months of trying, for one of his rare one-on-one interviews.
