Over the next two years, Crosscut (with your support) aims to make big improvements and serve more readers better.

Crosscut today is kicking off its fall 2013 membership drive. This fall member drive is particularly important, as it launches a new, two-year fundraising campaign that we’ve entitled, "Stronger Crosscut, Smarter Region." The idea is simple. Our aim is a smarter, more engaged Northwest region, and Crosscut needs to get bigger and stronger in order to fulfill that aim.

Our goal for the fall 2013 Membership Drive is to add or renew 400 Crosscut members, and we need your help. Last spring, 350 members joined because they believe Crosscut adds to the quality of reporting, commentary and civic engagement in our communities. This fall, we hope to build even more support through our focus on engaging members and raising funds for Crosscut’s editorial expansion. Join us today!

Stronger Crosscut, Smarter Region.

What do we mean by a “stronger Crosscut?” Ultimately, we need to double everything in the coming two years — double readership, double our reporting staff and double our revenues. As a self-sustaining nonprofit, Crosscut relies on your support, philanthropic grants, sponsorships and advertising. We need you to help us grow our staff capacity, improve our technology and provide more and better opportunities for you — the reader — to engage on important issues of the day.

What do we mean by a “smarter region?” Crosscut’s mission is a regional one: to reveal and strengthen civic and cultural life here in the Pacific Northwest. A stronger, more robust Crosscut will help to inform and engage our region, thus making it a smarter place to live and do business.

Editorial Expansion

The decline of staff reporters nationally has been well chronicled. And Crosscut, like so many newsrooms, struggles to expand and deepen the concentration of our editorial coverage in Seattle, the Eastside, Olympia and what we call “the Great Nearby” — those stories in the Puget Sound region that shape our lives here in the Northwest. Within those geographic areas, we need to grow our coverage in core subjects like politics and policy, urban life, culture and economy.

To achieve this vision, we need your help funding a more robust editorial team — a few more editors, writers, videographers, photographers and researchers to continue to produce quality journalism in the geographies and topics you care most about.
