Crosscut's Membership Drive: Because 'we are the media'

Your annual Membership is critical to keeping Crosscut serving you, so please consider joining the club and enjoying Member benefits. Drawings for Kindles (each week) and an iPad2 (grand prize) are meant to nudge you into doing the right thing. Today's drawing (Oct. 5) is for two tickets to the Merce Cunningham Legacy Tour at the Parmount.

Right now, Crosscut is holding its major Membership drive of the year. Your annual Membership and donations are critical to our mission of producing incisive and authoritative reporting and commentary about Seattle and "the Great Nearby." Join readers like Seattle author Jonathan Raban, who says, "I read Crosscut because the 'take' is so refreshingly urbane, grown up, and unprovincial."

One member, who sent in her annual membership, had this to say: "I'm happy to join. I'm a genuine fan and read Crosscut regularly. It gives me hope that true journalism is still alive."

It's easy to join or renew online, by going to our Donor Page. Donations are tax deductible, for Crosscut is a nonprofit enterprise, dedicated to producing journalism in the public interest. It is your public support that makes the difference, allowing Crosscut to operate without commercial pressures. You can choose a monthly automatic donation plan, if you wish.

Membership has distinct benefits, particularly frequent free-to-Members events where you can meet Crosscut writers and staffers, notable public figures, and your fellow Members, as well giving you access to discounted tickets. A Member Page details these and other benefits.

In addition, during this drive we will have daily, weekly, and grand-prize drawings. Today's drawing (Oct. 5) is for two free tickets to the Merce Cunningham Dance Legacy Tour, on Oct. 27 at the Paramount. Tuesday's winner of a dual annual membership at Town Hall Seattle is Stuart Elway of Seattle. We'll have one more weekly drawing for a new Kindle; the grand prize is an iPad2. Don't delay: we're entering our last week.

All donations at the $75 level and above will score a nifty new Crosscut totebag. Annual Membership begins at $35, $25 for students, and you can choose a monthly automatic donation plan, if you wish.

Crosscut chronicles Northwest life for thousands of readers each day, providing a distillation of the best of our region and a wide range of interpretive views. In the past four years, scores of lively and expert writers have produced 6,500 stories on the site. We can't do this without your support/ It is you who create a broad community of Crosscut friends, readers, and supporters who belive in this kind of "journalism for the public good." As has been said about this new form of interactive, community-fueled journalism: We are the media.

All this is provided free to our tens of thousands of readers, all across the region. But "free" takes money. Funding from our readers, in the form of annual Memberships, is the best way for us to sustain this enterprise and to stay accountable to our dedicated readers. If you agree and are enjoying the way Crosscut enriches your life countless times each year, please be generous, and please enlist a friend or two to help underwrite Crosscut's task of "keeping true journalism alive."

Please send in your Membership today.

Thanks, good people!
