Southeast Seattle is noted for its diversity, but it sometimes ends up being forgotten when city residents think about eating ethnic food. A two-week promotion, which starts today (March 27), aims to help change that.
The first "Plate of Nations" promotion brings together a dozen restaurants along Martin Luther King Jr. Way South to offer group dining specials. There are restaurants specializing in everything from regional American cooking (Cajun, barbecue and Philadelphia) to Thai, Mexican, Ethiopian, and more.
The event's organizers write, "MLK Jr. Way South is home to some of Seattle’s best, independently owned ethnic eateries. Hankering for some Chinese dim sum, a Vietnamese fish sandwich, Somali goat shawarma, Cajun style crawfish, or Mexican huaraches and a margarita? MLK has it."
The MLK Business Association organized the promotion to draw attention to the diversity of restaurants along the four-mile corridor along Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
If you go: The promotion runs through April 9. Details are on the Plate of Nations web site. Click on the "Restaurants" link to get details of each establishment's offerings. Plate of Nations notes that Sound Transit Central Link light rail and the Metro Transit Route 8 from Capitol Hill may be good options for getting to the restaurants.
